Project Overview

Sanctuary Tree is a 15 ft. limestone and Corten steel sculpture. This sculpture is based on my love of the outdoors and wild places. The first trees that I knew well were the trees and woods near my childhood home in Mentone, Alabama. These trees offered an understanding of a variety of the types of time that we can choose to live in - dense and abrupt here and over there calm and sinuous - it all depends on perspective and location.

The pipe sections will be cut, gracefully bent and welded a circular pattern. Intermittent in the circle will be 5 - 2.5 ft limestone spheres hewn from Alabama limestone. Each sphere will gently pivot when touched. The Corten steel will rust to a warm patina and the weathered limestone will take on a timeless hue.
